Miss Malawi UK has donated maize flour to 100 vulnerable families at Kabuwa and Mkhunguni Villages in Traditional Authority Khosolo in Mzimba district.

The donation that was provided by Pauline Long, an international multi-award winning entrepreneur is under the programme that aims at reaching out to vulnerable women.

Presenting the donation on Saturday to the chiefs on behalf of Miss Malawi UK, Ackson Kalaile said the current hunger situation in the country needs more intervention to bail out people, especially those in rural areas.

“We thank God that everyone now has realised that there is real hunger in the country. Everybody now knows that the current status of hunger cannot only be solved by one person. This means it is a responsibility of everybody to find other means of getting food to rescue the citizens who are sleeping without eating any food,” said Kalailie who hailed Director of Miss Malawi UK Kondi Bowoyeke and Pauline Long for the donation.

Senior Group Village Headman Lukwa said his area is badly hit by hunger arguing children are malnourished because they are currently surviving on wild fruits. Lukwa asked government and well-wishers to quickly intervene.

Bowoyeke said hunger affects development activities; hence people should work together in helping the disadvantaged people such as women, children and those living with disability.
