Missi Kathumba wins Winter Bike Race

Missi Kathumba won the 50-kilometre championship of the third Winter Mountain Bike Series on Saturday.

Kathumba cycled from Blantyre Sports Club to Ng’ona Lodge, Chikwawa District in one hour 54 minutes.

The cyclist said he was delighted to redeem himself after losing to Steven Nazombe in Luwawa race that took place in Mzimba last month.

Kathumba attributed his success to thorough training.

Asked as to who would emerge the overall winner of the series between Nazombe and himself, Kathumba said: “Let the best man win”

Eric Kandoje and Gray Ham won second and third positions, respectively.

PG Glass and HTD/KIA Motors sponsored the race.

Chief Executive Officer of PG Glass, Omar Patel, said their sponsorship was aimed at helping communities in areas where the races occur.

“The series is a great cause and a way of helping communities in the country. We get to see different places and see where development is needed,” Patel said

Harry Sidik, Chief Executive Officer of HTD/KIA Motors, said the company sponsors causes that benefit communities in the country.

The series are expected to end in September when cyclists will compete in Zomba forest.

Paul Kennedy, organiser of the series, said the competition was aimed at boosting cycling and helping the needy.
