Mlatho Mponela are dictating Central Region Chipiku Premier Division’s proceedings with 17 points from seven games.

That Mponela, who were once in the Super League, are leading is all thanks to solid defending and the fine form of striker Potiphar Kumpolota, who has bagged six goals.

Kumpolota is the second leading scorer, three goals behind Potiphar Likoswe of 10th-placed Chisomo Ideas.

Airborne Rangers and Imvani FC occupy second and third positions, with 15 points from six and eight games, respectively.

Rangers have Joseph Kamata to thank for keeping them in contention for Super League promotion, having scored five goals.

Kasungu Police and Jidi FC complete the top-five with 14 and 13 points, respectively.

Lilongwe Veterans anchor the table with four points from six games and risk relegation to Division One.

Elsewhere, Chitipa United are among the favourites for promotion from Simama Northern Region Premier Division while the second tier league in the Southern Region kicks off this weekend.

The league in the Southern Region was hit by uncertainty until this week when Southern Region Football Association secured K11 million sponsorship from United Purpose.

The launch of the league is scheduled for tomorrow in Mangochi District.
