Moc holds OlympAfrica Youth Games

Over 200 athletes gathered at Malawi Olympic Committee (Moc) OlympAfrica Centre in Lilongwe for the 2022 Youth Games over the weekend.

The athletes, drawn from schools in Lilongwe, competed in football and athletics.

Moc Technical Officer and entre Director for OlympAfrica James Mangani said he was impressed with talent on display at the event.

“This was a good opportunity for the youngsters to showcase their skills. The future looks bright for Malawi, but we need to invest more resources in all sporting codes to develop sports in Malawi,” Mangani said.

On his part, OlympAfrica Centre Chairperson Pilate Chibengeli said the Games offered the youngsters an opportunity to showcase their talent.

“The Games are very important as they help youngsters choose their sporting career wisely. Through the programme, we have identified several players. I am happy that there is great enthusiasm from the athletes,” he said.

One of the athletes, Chisomo Jeremiah, hailed Moc for hosting the event.

“The Games also provide us with a chance to network and share ideas. This is a very good initiative,” Jeremiah said.

Another participant, Rashida Makoloni, said the youth Games were an eye opener to her.

“We have learnt a lot from the Games. We hope the Games will take place again next year,” she said.
