Moment of truth as Suzgo Ngwira, Adellaide Migogo face voters today

All is set for the National Women’s Football Association (NWFA) elective annual general meeting (AGM) slated for Sunbird Livingstonia in Salima District today.
The pick of the day is the battle for the presidency between incumbent Suzgo Ngwira and renowned football administrator Adellaide Migogo.
The two camps have been involved in verbal tirades in the build up to the big day in women’s football.
But this is a secret ballot.
Again, by the nature of the elections, there is a winner and loser.
Surely, it is either Ngwira or Migogo.
Ngwira said she was confident of retaining her seat.
“I have done my part during the campaign period and, now, everything is in the hands of voters,’’ she said.
If re-elected, it will be Ngwira’s third term in office, having reclaimed the NWFA top seat after beating her predecessor Severia Chalira during the 2019 elections held in Mangochi.
In her blueprint titled, ‘Opening New Chapter in Women’s Football’, Migogo has focused on seven pillars, namely rebranding women’s football, inclusiveness, club development, technical development, growth, good governance and success.
“My vision is to make women’s football a brand that will entertain, a brand that will create value for both clubs and players; a brand that will have a strong presence in football in Malawi and beyond,’’ the manifesto reads.
Migogo is the board member for Mighty Mukuru Wanderers.
The position of vice chairperson and general secretary will see Tsalakunja Chimanga and Lustica Gondwe getting elected unopposed, respectively.
Bertha Kawanga and Shambashe Kadzamira are competing for the post of vice general secretary whereas Annie Mseteka and Winnie Nyondo are battling for the post of treasurer. Four people, namely Gabriel Chirwa, Lina Mtegha, Violent Bunya and Lackson Nyoni, have been nominated as committee members.
Football Association of Malawi appointed returning officers, namely Humphreys Mvula, David Kanyenda and Chifundo Makande.
