Some models lined up at roundabouts of Lilongwe City yesterday morning to set the hype ahead of the Airtel Top 8 Cup kick-off Saturday.

The company positioned eight models in most roundabouts in the city as a teaser ahead of the kick off.

The models dressed in the top-eight teams’ colours while carrying flags of each of them.

The models caught the attention of motorists and pedestrians.

Apart from the roundabout teasers, the company also lined up activities, including street soccer featuring former footballers such as Andrew Chikhosi, Rodrick Gonani, Davie Moya, Antony Banda, Charles Ngosi, Peter Mwenda and Amadu Ali.

Airtel Malawi Corporate Communications Manager, Norah Chavula-Chirwa, said the idea was to hype up the cup.

“Street soccer will be on Thursday [yesterday] and Friday [today] in several locations in the city. This is an opportunity for some of the fans to see veterans showcasing their skills,” she said.

The cup involves Nyasa Big Bullets, Be Forward Wanderers, Silver Strikers, Mafco, Moyale Barracks, Azam Tigers, Blue Eagles and Kamuzu Barracks.

Saturday, Silver will host Bullets in the first leg at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe whereas Mafco meet Moyale at Chitowe Stadium.

On Sunday, Tigers will play against Wanderers at Balaka Stadium whereas KB will face Eagles.
