More in my legs—Joseph Kamwendo
By Williams Gondwa:
Veteran midfielder Joseph Kamwendo has said he wants to prove that he has plenty to offer to Malawian football after signing a year-long contract with South Africa National First Division side, Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila.
Kamwendo, speaking after sealing the deal, said he feels energetic to deliver at the highest level.
“I am quite inspired to deliver at the top level. I have played with some of these players [at the South African team] and for sure, we will make this a great side,” he said.
Team official, Livhuwani Madzuhe, said they are processing the work permit for the midfielder who also played for Orlando Pirates and Vasco da Gama in South Africa plus Liga Muculmana (Mozambique), Nordsjaelland (Denmark) and TP Mazembe (the Democratic Republic of Congo).
The Malawian was the first foreigner to be crowned Zimbabwe Soccer Star of the Year in 2005 while playing for Caps United, and later played with the likes of Teko Modise at Pirates.
Madzuhe said he was impressed with Kamwendo’s performance in trials.
“We assessed Kamwendo on Thursday and he has joined training on Monday. The technical team is happy with the player. He wants to come to South Africa and revamp his career again.
“He said to me ‘I’m seeing [Reneilwe] Letsholonyane [is still playing], I played with him. I’m seeing Teko Modise, he is still playing’.
“And after he joined our team on Thursday, he saw [Edward] Manqele and he said ‘Hawu! Even Manqele is still here? He even saw ‘DVD’ [David] Mathebula, he was happy. They were shaking hands,” Madzuhe told Kick-Off football magazine.
Wanderers General Secretary, Mike Butao, yesterday reserved his comment on Kamwendo.
“Kamwendo is in South Africa but I don’t know that he went there for trials. Kamwendo told me that he was going to South Africa for a honeymoon. So, I will be in a better position to comment much once I have the details,” Butao said.
On Monday, the Nomads signed Masters Security FC Nigerian striker Babatunde Adeboye.
