Morton Mhango wins Mr. Zomba title
Malawi Defence Force bodybuilder, Morton Mhango, emerged as the new Mr. Zomba Bodybuilding champion after defeating 10 contestants.
The championship was held at Pajokala Lodge in Zomba on Saturday. Mhango displayed rare physique and muscle definition.
Another soldier from Cobbe Barracks, Ophaniel Kanyenda, finished on second position while Alfred Dzimbiri was third.
Mhango, for being the champion, received a gold medal and K100,000 cash while the runners-up got K75,000 and a silver medal. Dzimbiri received K50,000 and a bronze medal.
Mhango said it was a difficult race, but he emerged victorious because of hard work, composure and discipline.
“To excel in most events, you need these things otherwise you will fail,” he said.
Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Association of Malawi (WBAM) Eastern Region chairperson, Bright Limani, said it was a successful event.
“Before the contest, we conducted a screening exercise where about 12 were dropped because they did not meet the standards. This allowed us to have only the cream,” he said.
Limani thanked sponsors such as Pajokala Lodge, DR Hardware, H Adams Hardware, Rachel Supplies, Worth Supplies, Maziko Trading, Robani Supermarket, Ndife Otsogola Jhipego Project and Dyton Screen Printers.
Former champion Thoko Kakhongwe was disqualified from participating due to indiscipline.
