Moyale Barracks beat Azam Tigers to end home jinx

Moyale Barracks have recorded their first home win at Mzuzu Stadium after thumping Azam Tigers 4-0 on Saturday in a TNM Super League match.

The Lions of Kaning’ina had been struggling to win at home as most times they ended up with a draw or loss.

But this time, the gods smiled on the hosts, thanks to a stunning performance from striker Dan Katunga who netted a brace while Lloyd Njaliwa and Khuda Muyaba also were each on target.

Katunga scored two minutes into the first half before he came into lime light again in the 19th minute to make it 2-0.

The Tigers still were not humbled as they fought on to grab one but Peter Kasonga, Bright Munthali and Dan Kumwenda squandered their scoring chances.

Moyale, despite leading with two goals, still looked hungry as Njaliwa after receiving a cross from Deus Nkutu from the left frank, headed in to make it 3-0 in the 49th minute.

Sensing danger, Tigers’ coach Gerald Phiri brought in fresh legs of Dan Sibale formerly of Mzuzu’s City Stars FC, to add fire power but paid no divideds.

Moyale defence marshaled by Lovemore Mitengo Steve Msiska, Alisen Black and Suwedi Limbani, was rock solid putting strikers Kasonga, Willy Saenda and Munthali at bay.

As fans thought the game would end 3-0, Moyale brought in substitutes Luke Muyaba and Khuda for tired legs of Steve Mkandawire and Katunga.

Khuda coordinated so well with Boyboy Chima and he fired home after a pass beating the Tigers’ goalie Nenani Juwaya to make it 4-0 in the 80th minute.

The win has taken Moyale Barracks’ tally to 12 points from eleven games while the Tigers have 17 points.

“Yes, we didn’t play well and we have lost,” Tigers’ technical director, Reuben Alufandika, told the press in post match interview.

Moyale assistant coach, Themba Mtontholo, was excited saying God was on their side to record first home win.
