Moyale Barracks, Blue Eagles win Vale championship
Moyale Barracks and Blue Eagles won the men’s and ladies championship for the three-day Vale Logistics National Volleyball Tournament played at College of Medicine Sports Complex in Blantyre on Sunday.
Moyale, representing the Northern Region Volleyball League, beat Mipuniro Spikers from the Central Region 3-2 in a highly-contested match played at around 8pm.
In the ladies’ category, Eagles beat KB Ladies 3-2.
Volleyball Association of Malawi Vice-General Secretary, Martin Hausi, said he was impressed with the tournament’s outcome.
“One of the objectives of the tournament was to select players for international tournaments. We hope to come up with a list as we also continue with our relationship with Vale. We will also conduct awareness games in some Southern Region districts such as Balaka and those along the Vale rail line to identify more players, especially the youth,” Hausi said.
Vale pumped K6.7 million into the championship. Moyale and Eagles pocketed K600,000 and K500,000, respectively.
