“We started the league in October, and we thank honourable Jappie Mhango for the sponsorship. Next year, we want to have a ladies’ league, and we plan to source funds. I cannot disclose where we will get the money,” Nkhoma said.

He said the league has produced good players that qualify for national team assignments.

Volleyball Association of Malawi (Vam) vice-president, James Kaunda, while concurring with Nkhoma on the smooth running of the league, appealed for more support from the corporate world to all volleyball leagues in the country.

“Currently, we are only depending on Raiply National Volleyball Tournament and the Jappie Mhango League. We need to start supporting volleyball from the grassroots so that we can have a strong national team. People, especially in the North, have started liking the game as evidenced by the number of teams taking part here,” Kaunda said.

As champions in men’s category, Moyale got K40,000, a trophy and medals, while the runners-up, Katoto Trickers, received K30,000 and medals.

Mzuzu University went back to their campus with K20, 000 and medals, while K10, 000 and medals were also given to Rumphi for finishing on position three and four respectively.

In the ladies’ category, Mzuzu Academy received K20, 000, a trophy and medals, while the runners-up, Moyale, pocketed K15, 000 with medals. Katoto and Phwezi finished on positions three and four respectively, and each pocketed K10, 000 and K5, 000 with medals.
