TO CONTEST—Mwale

Moyale Barracks General Secretary Major Dennis Flao Mwale has expressed interest in vying for the post of Super League of Malawi (Sulom) vice general secretary.

The post fell vacant after Zacharia Nyirenda was fired for misappropriating funds meant for Silver Strikers, Nyasa Big Bullets and Sulom amounting to K2.8 million. He paid back K1 million.

Mwale said he was concerned for the welfare of players, hence his decision to contest.

“Players’ welfare is my priority. I will do this by championing sound policies and good decision making to support them,” he said.

“I also want to improve the communication gap between Sulom and teams as, most of the times, it generates some conflicts within the body and stakeholders,” he added.

Mwale said he would also lobby for disputes to be resolved amicably and harmonisation of fixtures.

“I want to deliver timely resolutions of disputes arising from matches as a result of misconduct. Another area I want to improve is the harmonisation of the fixtures by ensuring that the season’s calendar is not tampered with to suit the interest of some clubs,” he said.

Sulom Legal Adviser Innocent Kadammanja said the body was yet to decide when to fill the post as the prevailing Covid pandemic has negatively affected its operations.

“We will handle it the same way we did with the post of legal adviser. However, executive members can also appoint a replacement until elections are held,” he said.
