Injured Moyale Barracks goalkeeper, Juma Chikwenga, midfielder Crispin Fukizi and striker Gastin Simkonda, have hailed their team mates for starting the 2017 TNM Super League season on a high.

Minus Simkonda, the Fukizi brothers, Crispin and Clifford, Chikwenga and Lovemore Mitengo, the Mzuzu-based soldiers beat Nyasa Big Bullets 1-0 at Mzuzu Stadium on Sunday.

Alisen Black scored the lone goal during the match which Chikwenga, Fukizi and Simkonda watched from the stands.

The injured players have since urged their teammates to replicate their performance when facing fellow soldiers, Mafco, in Sunday’s Airtel Top 8 Cup quarter-final in Dwangwa.

“The boys went into the match as underdogs, but they worked very hard to win the match. I would like encourage them to keep the momentum,” Chikwenga said.

Midfielder Fukizi hailed the players for showing hunger during the game against Bullets.

“Looking at the performance, our unavailability was not a problem. We urge our colleagues to do the same this coming Saturday when they travel to Chitowe,” Fukizi said.

Simkonda said time had come for the Lions of Kaning’ina to claim their lost glory by winning a trophy this season.

“Looking at how our colleagues played, it really gives us a picture that we need to work hard once we get back into the team. It is indeed high time we grabbed either the league championship or a cup,” Simkonda said.

Moyale last won the now defunct Standard Bank Cup in 2008 after defeating Nyasa Big Bullets on post-match penalties.
