Mozambican club target John Banda
Mozambican club Costa do Sol have written Blue Eagles expressing interest in signing Flames international, John ‘CJ’ Banda, The Daily Times has learnt.
Banda, who is one of the Flames and Eagles’ most consistent performers, is also on Jomo Cosmos’ wanted-list as the South African club decided against signing Be Forward Wanderers striker Mohamad Sulumba.
Eagles team manager, Gabriel Chirwa, yesterday confirmed receipt of the letter from the Mozambican club.
“At the moment, I cannot say much about the issue because the club is yet to meet,” Chirwa said, without elaborating as to when the Mozambican club wants the versatile attacker.
Banda, popularly known as CJ, is a police officer and can only switch to the Mozambican club outside the transfer window as a free agent. Free agents are allowed to join any club outside the window.
Banda, the younger brother to Frank Banda, who plays for another Mozambican club, HCB de Songo, has eight goals in 40 games for Flames.
He was on target for Malawi in 1-0 win over Tanzania recently. However, his goal was not enough to help Flames progress to the next round of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
If the deal goes through, Banda will join compatriot Chimango Kaira at Costa.
In July this year, South African reputable soccer publication, Soccer Laduma, also reported that the former Eagles Strikers attacker was wanted by giants Mamelodi Sundowns.
