MP launches Constituency Trust Fund

Member of Parliament for Chiradzulu West, Emmanuel Fabiano, says it is everyone’s responsibility to participate in development and other social activities.

Fabiano, who is also Minister of Education Science and Technology, said this on Saturday when he launched a Constituency Trust Fund at Namaka School ground in Senior Traditional Authority Mpama in the district.

The trust will be assisting by paying school fees for those whose parents cannot afford to pay such as orphans, in addition to funding other social activities.

During the launch, Fabiano contributed K1 million towards the concept, while K1.4 million was donated by other well-wishers.

Constituency Trust Fund trustees include Dr Graham Chipande, Cassidy Chalimba, Laurine Meke, Dr Sosten Chiotha, a Mr Kalambule and Masauko Msungama.

Chipande who is the chairperson of the fund said the aim of the trust is to assist the needy, orphans and vulnerable including the disabled children who fail to go to school because their parents have no money.

“After observing that people in any constituency have a tendency of seeking help from their MP, who in some cases fail to assist them, we decided to set the concept so that the people’s pressing needs can be met by the fund instead of flocking to their MP. It is a pity to see bright children failing to proceed with education because they don’t have money, so we want to ease their problems,” said Chipande.

Chipande further said the fund will be managed by technocrats from the district council and that the trust will be used by the community themselves.

He further stressed that the fund will not be politicised in order to ensure that all benefit from it
