MP leads in self-help projects
Member of Parliament for Zomba Chingale, Wallace Chawawa, has asked people in the country to take part in development activities in their respective areas, regardless of their political affiliations.
Chawawa, who is a member of the People’s Party, said this during the launch of a project to construct a bridge across Mawuzi River in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Mlumbe.
He discouraged his constituents from waitinmg upon the government for development projects, saying that the people who suffer from underdevelopment are best placed to change their situations.
“This bridge will benefit people from Changalume who seek treatment at Chipini Health Centre or even those who want to buy maize at Masaula Admarc Market. It is not the government that will be using the bridge but ourselves,” Chawawa said.
The MP then commended Gwaza Catholic Church Choir who took their turn to collect building material for the project.
Speaking on behalf of other village heads, Group Village Head (GVH) Mwangata, who is also chairperson of the project, hailed the MP for taking the initiative to construct the bridge.
According to Chawawa, similar projects including construction of Masaula Police Unit and Gwaza Health Centre are in progress.
Meanwhile, Chawawa has hailed the government for implementing Masaf IV which he said has improved people’s livelihood
