Actor Mphundu Mjumira has attracted attention on social media with his comics.
Mjumira, who has acted in several productions both local and international, said yesterday he was happy to raise the country’s profile through the skit that he airs on local television.
“The comedy came about when I was having a chat with my bosses. The motivation is that people are going through a lot of stress this time and a lot of other problems. As an artist working for television I thought of coming in with something hence this skit,” Mjumira said.
He said he is always happy when artists achieve great things and get recognised.
“So once everything is shot, we post it on the television station’s Facebook page and then share it on my page. Honestly, I never knew that it would have an overwhelming response including from those outside the country. This is real news around the world but said in a comic without hurting anyone but entertaining. We are in pain and so we need happiness,” Mjumira said.
Mjumira has over the years bemoaned the lack of support to the creative sector in the country despite having massive talent.
“I know people in my country appreciate talent when one is gone and that is when they show love. The country needs to support its own and value its own. We could have been far much ahead but here we are because of lack of support. I would like to thank management for giving me the platform,” he said.
Mjumira has also worked with international theatre companies such as Theater Konstanz.
He has toured with Theater Konstanz in Germany with the play titled Fear Eats the Soul, where he was the lead actor.
