Malawi under-20 national football team Coach, Peter Mponda, has warned his charges not to get too excited following their dream start at the Cosafa Youth Championship in Lusaka, Zambia.

Malawi thrashed Comoros Islands 4-0 on Wednesday and face Botswana on Saturday.

Mponda said Malawi must win their game against Botswana on Saturday to enhance their chances of qualifying for the semi-finals.

“After a convincing win against Comoros, I thanked the boys for a job well done. I am now encouraging them to focus on the next assignment and forget about the win against Comoros. The boys must not get carried away with the win,” Mponda said.

However, Mponda was reluctant to disclose whether he would change his starting up line that beat Comoros when they date the Young Zebras.

“Basically, you don’t change a winning team but during our first game, we had some problems and we are looking into that. I will sit down with my colleagues to see if we can make some changes,” Mponda said.

During the match against Comoros, Patrick Mwaungulu scored a hat-trick with the other goal coming from Francisco Madinga.

Zambia lead group A on a superior goal-aggregate after thrashing Botswana 5-0 on Wednesday.

Group winners and overall best second place finisher will qualify for the semi-finals.
