Mr and Miss Albinism have created what they call the ‘Kukongola Kowala’ social media awareness campaign that seeks to show the best of persons with albinism.
The campaign has been dedicated to the whole month of June.
To join the campaign people should send a picture with a caption of any person with albinism, who inspires them and why they think they shine.
Miss Albinism Chikondi Kanjadza, said Wednesday that they were happy to initiate the social media campaign and that their aim is to show the beauty of persons with albinism.
“This is all with regards to this year’s International Albinism Day theme which is ‘Made to shine’,” Kanjadza said.
The campaign was launched Wednesday.
“Most of the stories we hear about persons with albinism are usually negative but through this campaign, we want to show that persons with albinism can also shine and there is more to being a person with albinism other than the negative stories that we always hear,” the beauty queen said.
Kanjadza said as the campaign progresses, people will also be allowed to ask questions regarding albinism and that the two will answer them.
Kanjadza and Mr Albinism Bennet Phunyanya made history last year when they were crowned Miss and Mr Albinism respectively to be faces of persons with albinism.
“The challenges have been lack of funds to engage in different projects and we call upon well-wishers, the corporate world and the government to help us otherwise we have so many programmes,” she said.
Meanwhile Kanjadza has also revealed that they working on a theme song for this year’s International Albinism Awareness Day.
“This project has been organised by Mr and Miss Albinism as well. The song features five artists with albinism. There is me, Gophyl G, Taqwa, Charles and Hilda. The song is titled ‘Made to shine’ going by the theme of the International Albinism Awareness Day,” she said.
The International Albinism Awareness Day is celebrated annually on June 13 to celebrate the human rights of persons with albinism worldwide.
