Mr Malawi doubtful
Reigning Mr Malawi Bodybuilding champion, Patrick Mhango, will likely miss this year’s contest after failing to confirm his availability for the competition which is scheduled for College of Medicine Sports Complex in Blantyre Saturday.
This year’s champion is set to pocket K1 million prize money.
Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Association of Malawi (WBAM) Vice- President, Kelvin Saeluzika, said they were keeping their fingers crossed on Mhango’s availability.
Mhango won the title last year in Lilongwe.
Saeluzika said the door was open for Mhango to defend the title of the competition which has attracted 30 bodybuilders.
“We will consider [him], as long as he registers before the pre-judging session to be held either on Friday [today] afternoon or Saturday morning,” he said.
Mhango could not be reached as we went to press, but he also missed Ulaya Classic contest.
Meanwhile, Saeluzika said they were happy with the crop of bodybuilders that have registered for the event.
Last year’s runners-up, Moses Muhuwa, said he was eyeing the title.
“I never give up. I am always trying to polish up some mistakes which I noticed,” he said.
The association has received support from organisations, including Capital Oil Refining Industries.
