The reigning Mr Malawi Emmanuel ‘Muscle Manzy’ Muhuwa has become the first local bodybuilder to earn the International Federation of Body Building and Fitness (IFBB) professional licence in South Africa.
Muhuwa could not be reached for a comment following his exploits in South Africa.
However, Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Association of Malawi (Wabam) President Arox Kamng’ona said Muhuwa deserved the licence.
“Muhuwa is the holder of Mr Malawi 2022 title and he has just won his NPC Pro Card in SA. He is now a member of IFBB Professional leagues and NPC [National Physique Committee] having obtained a ‘Pro Card’.
“This will allow him to compete in any competition organised by IFBB internationally. As Wabam, we are quite excited to have the first Pro Bodybuilder ever in the history of the bodybuilding sport in Malawi,” he said.
The development comes as a relief to Wabam, as some quarters took the association to court over Muhuwa’s legitimacy.
Wabam was criticised of using unqualified judges who favoured the Blantyre-based bodybuilder.
