Mr Malawi wins gold in South Africa

Mr Malawi Bodybuilding champion Emmanuel Muhuwa has gone into the history books after winning a gold medal at Arnold Classic Africa held at Walter Sisulu Centre, South Africa, on Saturday.
This is the first time for a Malawian bodybuilder to win a gold medal at a major amateur championship.
The two-time Mr Malawi winner, who is well known as Muscle Manzy, said he was humbled to have won the 80kg Senior Open Men category.
“This is just the beginning. I will use this as a stepping stone to new challenges. My plan is to participate in three more international championships next. I will be competing to win gold medal,” said the 27-year-old bodybuilder who trains at Hashtag Fitness Gym.
The gym’s manager Jean-Claude de Silva, who accompanied him, said they were delighted with Muhuwa’s exploits.
“I am extremely happy. I travelled here to South Africa to support him and represent Hashtag Fitness. We are extremely proud of everything he has achieved and it is only the beginning,” he said.
Silva said the gym would support Muhuwa to realise his dreams including getting a professional card net year.
“He has our full support in all of his endeavours as he is part of our family. He plans to rest for a week. Then he will get back to training so that next year he can compete to earn a pro card. We are in the process of looking for sponsorships to make his training and preparations,” he said.
Weightlifting and Body Building Association of Malawi (Wabam) President Arox Kamng’ona applauded the bodybuilder for winning gold.
“It shows that his win in Mr Malawi bodybuilding competition was not a fluke. We need companies to come and assist bodybuilders like him,” he said.
