Mr Zomba hunts for K250,000 shortfall

Organisers of this year’s Mr Zomba Bodybuilding and Powerlifting competition have stepped up the hunt for K250,000 to cover their budget shortfall.

The event is scheduled for Zomba on December 24 and has a K675,000 budget.

One of the organisers, Bright Limani, was speaking when Kombeza Foods Limited donated K75,000 towards the contest.

Limani said Kombeza is the sixth sponsor to support the competition and expressed hope that the shortfall would be covered before December.

“This is a growing sport and we need all the support we can get. We need to get all resources that we require in good time so that we prepare well for the competition. We want this year’s contest to be the best. We have come of age. We want to produce quality bodybuilders and power lifters who can win medals for Malawi.

“We are receiving overwhelming support from various businesses and companies in Malawi and we believe the shortfall will be covered in no time. We will work hard to help Kombeza market their products through our game. We promise fireworks in December,” he said.

Kombeza Foods Sales Manager, Francis Kandanga, said they were excited to support a minority sport which has great potential to grow big.

“Mr Zomba is a great platform for bodybuilding in Malawi. We are delighted to partner with the Mr Zomba brand. We know bodybuilders require a lot of energy to excel in the sport and they can get it from our products,” Kandanga said.

Other sponsors who have supported the competition are Rab Processors, Bliss Car Hire, DR Hardware, Kips Restaurants and Exide Express Batteries.

Mr Zomba is an annual competition which started in 2013 at Mulunguzi Cottage in the old capital with the aim of promoting fitness and wellness among Malawians.
