Super League of Malawi (Sulom) Treasurer, Malinda Chinyama and Legal Advisor, Muhamad Selemani, have formally notified Sulom about their interest to vie for executive positions when Football Association of Malawi (Fam) goes to polls next month.
Selemani said it was important to officially notify Sulom top brass on his plans to contest as an executive member to avoid jeopardising operations.
“I was taking my time consulting and I have written to my president Tiya Somba Banda expressing my stance. He has since given me a go ahead. Currently, I am in talks with Fam affiliates to nominate me. I am hopeful that I will make it,” said the former Masters Security team manager.
Chinyama, said he has made a decision to consider contesting as an executive member after some affiliates approached him.
“I had to consult first and now I have made up my mind to vie for executive member post. So I have notified my colleagues [Sulom] about my decision as I also need their blessings,” he said.
Sulom President, Tiya Somba Banda, wished the pair success at the forthcoming elections.
“We wish them well and all the success in their pursuit to the Fam Executive committee. We believe they will represent the interests of the clubs and Sulom in that high office,” he said.
Banda said Sulom would take necessary action following the outcome of the elections.
“If they succeed, Sulom will replace their positions in line with the Sulom constitution. And if they don’t make it, we will continue working with them cordially like before,” he said.
Both Selemani and Chinyama were elected into Sulom executive during the body’s polls in March.
Some of the current executive members including Daud Sulemani Jabbar Alide and Daudi Mtanthiko are reportedly seeking other positions but they are yet to declare their stand.
Meanwhile, Felister Dossi, was the first to declare her interest to vie for an executive member post.
