FIGHTING ALONE—Selemani

Super League of Malawi (Sulom) legal advisor Muhammad Selemani has indicated that he would not join any camp ahead of Football Association of Malawi (Fam)’s polls in December.

Selemani is among nine candidates who are vying for committee member positions.

Currently, there are two camps ahead of the polls, with one siding with incumbent President Walter Nyamilandu and the other camp behind his vice James Mwenda.

Selemani, who announced a fortnight ago that he would compete in the committee member contest, said he has decided avoid joining either camp as he believes that football is not all about camps and enemity.

“I am campaigning on my own by visiting affiliates. I do not want to join camps that are creating enemity in the game, hence my decision. I am going it alone. I do not see any need to align myself with any camp. I have already met some Fam affiliates to ask for their support,” Selemani said.

Meanwhile, incumbent executive members such as Rashid Ntelera and Daud Sulemani have also shown interest to defend their positions.

Northern Region Football Association General Secretary Masiya Nyasulu, Southern Region Football Association Treasurer Christopher Kuyera, Be Forward Wanderers Chairperson Gift Mkandawire, the Nomads’ second Vice Chairperson Hubert Mfune and National Youth Association President Chimango Munthali are also vying for Fam’s executive membership.
