Mighty Mukuru Wanderers forward Muhammad Sulumba has said the 2022 TNM Super League golden boot award race is still wide open.
Sulumba is now the leading scorer in the league with 13 goals, having scored a hat-trick as his side thrashed relegated Rumphi United 10-0 at the Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre on Wednesday.
However, Sulumba said it was not automatic that he will win the golden boot award after overtaking Nyasa Big Bullets striker Babatunde Adepoju and Chawanangwa Kaonga of Silver Strikers, who have scored 12 goals each.
“This has now given me confidence that I can win the golden boot award but it is not automatic that I will win it. When I look at my counterparts they have so many matches to play before the league winds up. As such, it is possible they can also score more goals,” said the former Bullets and Civil Service United striker.
Sulumba said helping his side finish among top three teams in the league was his ultimate mission as chances of grabbing the title were slim.
Last year, Bullets striker Hassan Kajoke won the golden boot award after scoring 15 goals.
