Mulanje hospital runs without x-ray machine

People from Mulanje have expressed worries over the delay by Mulanje hospital authorities to rectify the X-ray machine which has been down for the past 10 months.

One of the patients who asked for anonymity said patients are being sent to Mulanje mission hospital where they are paying some money for them to be examined.

He said most of the patients don’t afford to pay the money and are left untreated others travel to Thyolo and Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre for free treatment

“We are very tired with the ministry of health should buy another equipment for us to get free services to imagine for me to get treatment at the mission I sold my goats “, He explained.

He added that other drugs risen pain as well as being sent to purchase in pharmacies.

When contacted by Mulanje hospital Public relations officer Chipiliro Mjojo said they are sending the patients to the mission but he did not open up about whether the hospital is paying the bill or not.

“Yes the machine is down and now we are sending out to the nearest mission hospital”, he said.

Malawi Health Equity Network (Mhen) Executive Director George Jobe has condemned the health authorities for delaying to rectify the machine, stating they are violating the right of the citizen of getting free medication from public facilities.
