Mulanje hosts first Super League game

History was made on Saturday when newly constructed Mulanje Park Stadium hosted a first-ever TNM Super League game between hosts, Premier Bet Wizards and Silver Strikers.

The game, which Malawi National Football Team Coach, Ronny van Geneugden, his assistant Gerald Phiri Senior and Football Association of Malawi Technical Director, John Kaputa, watched, ended goalless.

Wizards Technical Director, Peter Mponda, who is also the Flames’ Team Manager, opted to look at the larger picture of the game.

“We saw a lot of areas we need to improve on. Moving here is another plus for us as people of Mulanje will be entertained, thereby helping us build our fan-base,” Mponda told Malawi Broadcasting Corporation’s Radio 2 FM on Saturday.

“We believe that 2017 would be our season. In the past two seasons, we have been telling people that we want to finish in the top-eight but sometimes things do not go the way you plan. We have learnt our lessons and we believe this season we will finish in the top ranks.”
