Mulhakho wa Alhomwe preparations on course

Organisers of Mulhakho wa Alhomwe Festival have said they are set for the cultural event, with 80 percent work already complete.

The annual festival, to be held at Chonde Headquarters in Mulanje District and set to feature among others traditional dances, starts on October 7 2022 with the climax on October 9.

Chief Executive Officer Pius Mvenya said they were leaving no stone unturned in their preparations to execute the finest event and that this includes brewing of traditional beer, putting in place hygiene-related equipment and inviting guests.

Mvenya said the guest of honour at this year’s event will be former president Peter Mutharika, who is also the patron, and former president Bakili Muluzi, who will be the main speaker.

“This year, we are advocating unity amidst diversity and, aside from that, we are advocating an end to human trafficking, early marriages and promotion of mental health.

“I want to assure people that health issues will be adhered to because we have bought 2,000 litres of sanitiser and 300 washing buckets with taps and we have taps right here,” he said.

One of the brewers of local beer Elida Maononga said the local spirit kachasu was ready while Masese is in the process and that by October 7, it will be ready.

“We want to assure people that Mulhakho wa Alhomwe Cultural Festival will happen and it will be big just like it has been all the years; therefore, people should come in large numbers,” Maononga.

Mulhakho wa Alhomwe cultural festival is an annual event which takes place every year during summer.
