Multichoice Malawi on Thursday hyped up the World Cup by hosting a seven-aside friendly involving Lilongwe and Blantyre media teams at Lake Valley Ground in Ntcheu District.
Former Flames star, Chancy Gondwe, coached the Blantyre media team which beat the Lilongwe side, nicknamed the Flames, 4-3.
Another former football star, Peterkins Kayira, drilled the Lilongwe team. Both teams put on Flames’ replica jerseys.
Some of the players that starred for Malawi included Kandani Ngwira, Yasin Limu, Victor Singano, Frank Kandu and Simeon Shumba.
The ‘Flames’ featured players such as Mabvuto Kambuwe of Times Group and Innocent Chitimbe.
MultiChoice Sales and Marketing Manager, Chimwemwe Nyirenda, said they organised the event to bring the World Cup closer to the community.
“And to make it more interesting, we thought of hosting a seven-aside match involving the media and coached by the legends,” Nyirenda said.
Gondwe and Kayira hailed MultiChoice for the event.
MultiChoice beamed the World Cup opener between Russia and Saudi Arabia. The hosts won 5-0.
