MultiChoice promises more content

PHAHLE—In the year 2020 we have everything for everyone

By Brian Banda In Sandton, South Africa:

A two-day MultiChoice Media Showcase kicked off Thursday in Sandton, South Africa with a promise of more thrilling content on all DStv platforms.

MultiChoice General Entertainment Chief Executive Officer, Yolisa Phahle, made the promise during the opening of the showcase.

Phahle said MultiChoice has been working tirelessly to bring fresh and captivating content on DStv.

“In the year 2020 we have everything for, including kids. We have listened attentively to the wish of our subscribers and we will give them the best,” Phahle said.

She revealed that one of the programmes Bachelor South Africa will come back next year and that a new reality show the- Choir Competition will premier early next year.

“We are hoping that through the competition, Africans are going to be more united as we all seem to understand the language of music,” she said.

Asked on whether Big Brother Africa will come back next year, Phahle, said the company was looking at other forms of entertaining viewers regionally.

She said MultiChoice started with Nigeria and that they will continue with other regions.

On concerns that DStv repeats content, Phahle, said: “We actually have the lowest repeat rate in the world, there is just no question about it.”

According to Phahle, the reason why Africans still grapple with the issue of broadcast repeats was that the average African household watches twice as much television as the average consumer in the rest of the world-about five to six hours a day.

“We have to have so many more fresh hours than other operators across the world,” Phahle said.

The media showcase ends today.
