Mum condemns fake news on Favoured Martha

Musicians Union of Malawi (Mum) Monday condemned those who created news through social media that gospel singer Martha Pingasa, better known as Favoured Martha, was ‘dead’.

The music body expressed disappointment over the news that was on social media, saying it affected Favoured Martha and her family.

“As a music body, we would like to condemn this malpractice in no uncertain terms for it is barbaric and stems from ill-cultured individuals,” Mum says in a statement.

The statement signed by Mum President Reverend Chimwemwe Mhango, says it finds the news as a serious irregularity by Cadet Eyes, which later retracted the story.

“The union finds this as a serious irregularity by one so-called Cadet Eyes who posted this malicious news without even verifying with the family let alone Mum where Favoured Martha serves as vice president,” the statement reads.

It further says death messages are not something to toy around with whether under the influence of insanity or any condition.

Mhango said Monday that Favoured Martha is well.

“As Mum, we would like to urge the public to desist from posting fake news ‘killing’ someone. We also urge the government to nip this malpractice in the bud through its established instruments,” Mhango said.

Meanwhile, the families of Pingasa and Malamula Monday also released a statement informing people that Favoured Martha was discharged from hospital last Tuesday.

“She is now at her home recovering contrary to the news that was posted on the social media that she is no more,” says the statement.

The Pingasa and Malamula families thanked all people who gave them support during the period Favoured Martha was at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre.

The singer said upon her discharge that she was recovering.

In the year 2017, Favoured Martha dropped her third album Mawa Limafika.

Her other albums are Ondikonda Ndilinaye and Yehova Musalole.
