Musa Ajibu, Chimwemwe Chiotcha for world title bouts
Local boxers Musa Ajibu and Chimwemwe Chiotcha will square up against Namibian and South African opponents, respectively, for world titles.
Ajibu will slug it out against Patrick Mukala in a World Boxing Organisation (WBO) cruiser weight title bout on March 15 in Accra, Ghana.
Ajibu is in form as his recent bout ended in a knock-out victory after 40 seconds against Kenyan Ramadhan Kaminja in Lilongwe.
Chiotcha will face Olanrewaju Durodola for a World Boxing Association (WBA) title in South Africa.
Malawi Boxing Association (Maba) professional wing has secured the bouts for the two boxers.
Pro-Maba, Chairperson, Daud Chikwanje, said his body wants to give local boxers international exposure.
“We are serious about developing boxing in Malawi. We will try our best to assist the boxers so that they prepare well for the title bouts. Chiotcha and Ajibu are top boxers and definitely they will do us proud,” Chikwanje said.
He also trashed claims from other sections that boxers registered under Maba will not be fighting for world titles.
“We have what we call IBA responsible for amateur and World Boxing Series (WBS) that allows us to fight any world titles,” he added.
Ajibu’s opponent is one of the promising boxers having won all seven fights in his career, including six knockouts.
In his 19 bouts, Chiotcha has won 14 bouts, including 11 knock outs and
five loses whereas Durodola boasts of 24 wins (22 knock-outs) and three loses in 27 fights.
