Musco advocates for financial inclusion for minority groups

Malawi Union of Savings and Credit Co-operatives (Musco) is advocating for the inclusion of individuals with special needs in financial services.
The sentiments were raised when a group of women from Mudi Saving and Credit Co-operative (Sacco) donated food and non-food items to Mountain View School for the deaf at Bvumbwe in, Thyolo District.
The primary school has learners with hearing and speech impairments from standard one to eight.
Musco Business Development Manager, Ezekiel Thindwa, said there was need to inspire the children who in time will adopt a saving culture.
“The future of the Saccos is in the youth, so we need to incorporate them in financial undertakings, lest we create a gap,” Thindwa said.
Mudi Sacco Vice Chairperson, Rose Nyambi, described the donation as part of their corporate social responsibility stressing it is an annual event.
The school’s head teacher, Modester Jere, described the gesture as timely saying it has addressed the needs of the students.
“As a school, we lack so many things, especially food and some of these children come here without anything to eat,” Jere said.
Some of the donated items include maize, sugar, cooking oil, soya pieces, and sanitary napkins for the girls.
The school has 160 students.
