Music promoter Misso speaks on cyber security

Music promoter Samson Chitsamba, better known as Amuna Misso, has taken up the lead role of using his YouTube channel in providing cyber security special tutorials to protect creatives and players from attacks.

Misso, who is also a musician and producer at Malawi Rap Battle and Entertainment (MRB) Records and Sound Factory, said his decision has been necessitated by increased cases of cyber-attacks.

He said the development is putting creatives and other people’s privacy at risk.

The founder of an online hip hop page – Malawi Rap Battle and Entertainment — said, for most Malawians to be safe on social media, they need to know how to protect their information, hence he decided to be using vernacular language for easy understanding.

“With growing numbers of complaints about hackers globally, I have decided to make my contribution to bring a solution to how to secure social media accounts in order to avoid attacks,” he said.

He said cyber security is important because it encompasses everything that relates to protecting data from cyber attackers who want to steal information and use it to cause harm.

“Many creatives have been targeted and they need to know how to protect their sensitive data including personal information and even intellectual property, among others,” Misso said.

He said having cyber defense programmes and mechanisms in place to protect personal or any other information is crucial and at the individual level, cyber security attacks can lead to identity theft and extortion attempts, which can do serious damage to individual life.

“Today, cyber-attacks are no longer stopped by anti-virus software or firewalls. The risk of cyberattacks is constantly increasing and, for companies and institutions or creatives, it is no longer a question of if it will happen but rather when,”Misso said.
