Musician William Kachigamba dies

Youthful musician with albinism William Kachigamba is no more.

Kachigamba died at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe in the early hours of Sunday.

Marcus Magaso who used to star with him in Zion Rock Band and his sister Patricia confirmed of the artists’ death.

“It is sad to take it but only God knows why it had to happen. He was such an amazing artist and so talented. He was playing music like a magician and could play any instrument,” Magaso said.

Fellow musician Patience Namadingo running by the tagline ‘The Currency is Love’ fundraised for Kachigamba in 2020 and saw the ‘Mapulani’ maker posing as a statue near Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre.

Namadingo responded to Kachigamba’s SOS after he posted a video appealing to well-wishers to support him to travel to Zambia for medical attention after being diagnosed with cancer.

The fundraising drive, which earned Namadingo praise from people in the country and trended on social media, raised over K4.7 million with President Lazarus Chakwera donating K2 million.

Kachigamba, a Music Crossroads Academy recipient went on to receive treatment in Zambia the same year.

“We went to Zambia where he received medical attention but his condition did not improve,” Patricia said.

Kachigamba was born on March 3 1993 and hailed from Mvera in Dowa.

His death comes barely four days after the country also lost another talented musician Walycris Wanyengo, who died on Friday following a bus accident
