Mussa Ajibu, Zimbabwean headline Maba fights
Local heavyweight boxer, Mussa ‘Big Elephant’ Ajibu, is expected to take on Zimbabwean, Tineyi ‘ Snake Kid’ Maridzo, in a cruiserweight fight at M1 Centre Point in Lilongwe on February 5.
Malawi Boxing Association (Maba) Professional Boxing Control Board has organised the contest dubbed ‘Game of Legends.’
Both boxers have good records with Ajibu popular for his knock-outs.
Maridzo is experienced having previously won the Africa Superweight title.
The board’s Chairperson, Daud Chikwanje, said preparations for the bout were at advanced stage.
“This is the biggest fight in 2017 and we want to give boxing fans something special. We hope that the fight will live up to expectations. We are also appealing to companies and individuals to be part of the big event,” Chikwanje said.
The bout is part of Maba’s early talent identification for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in Japan.
Chikwanje said the budget for the bout was K2.5 million. Glasasis Building and Engineering has since pumped in K1,150, 000 towards the event.
The main supporting bout will be between Limbani Lano and Alick Gogodo in the super heavyweight category.
