Mwawi Kumwenda is Airtel’s new ambassador
Malawi’s star netballer, Mwawi Kumwenda has been unveiled as Airtel Malawi’s new ‘It’s Now Campaign’ ambassador, with the purpose of inspiring Malawians through her success story.
The Malawi netball Queens shooter was unveiled Wednesday at Protea Ryalls in Blantyre where Airtel Malawi confirmed a six-month deal with the New Zealand-based player.
She replaces Ivory Coast and Manchester City midfielder, Yaya Toure, who was the campaign’s ambassador in 17 African countries from last July to December.
Airtel Malawi’s acting managing director, Charles Kamoto, said Mwawi was chosen after thorough consultations with Airtel Malawi’s customers estimated at over 3.5 million “She is someone who has used her potential to reach greater heights by leading the Malawi Queens to several victories and her major global accolade in 2015 was being crowned 2015 Netball World Cup World Player of the Year. That is the power of potential. Mwawi is thus a shining example of power of potential, showing that with hard work and dedication you can achieve your dreams,” he said.
Kamoto said Mwawi has shot several inspirational videos and she would also host several events when on a break from her New Zealand club, Tactix.
Mwawi happily accepted her new role.
“I always train and work hard to improve and perfect my game so that I remain on top of my game and above competition. Fortunately, Airtel shares the same ideology with me in their approach to business. This is why I am able to assure the entire management of Airtel that I will represent the brand well and encourage more Malawians to achieve their dreams,” she said.
