Mwawi Kumwenda, Joyce Mvula to join Queens in New Zealand
Malawi national netball team top shooters, Mwawi Kumwenda and Joyce Mvula, will join the Queens in New Zealand en route to Australia for Commonwealth Games.
Mwawi plays for Melbourne Vixens of Australia whereas Mvula is a player for Manchester Thunder of England.
The Queens regrouped on Monday in readiness for Taini Jamison Trophy in Auckland, New Zealand at the end of this month.
The Queens’ assistant Coach, Whyte Mulilima, said the pair has assured them of their availability for the trophy, which is a warm-up for the Commonwealth Games, to run from April 5 to 16 in Australia.
“We are not worried about their fitness because they are both active. The league has started in England whereas Mwawi’s team has been on a pre-season tour. When we meet them, it would be an issue of working on tactics and combinations,” he said.
Mulilima said some players were training individually prior to the call-up.
“I was meeting most of the players during our sessions in the Central Region whereas Griffin Saenda Junior [the team’s Fitness Coach] was monitoring training sessions for Blantyre-based players,” he said.
