By Mphatso Malidadi:

Australia-based shooter, Mwawi Kumwenda, is back home to continue with her rehabilitation.

The Melbourne Vixens shooter is a major doubt for the Queens’ trip to Liverpool, the United Kingdom, for the World Cup next year following a leg injury she suffered earlier this year.

The former Kukoma Diamonds attacker has since urged Netball Association of Malawi to ensure that the Queens start preparations earlier.

“It is very unlikely that I will recover in time for the World Cup. I am still doing my rehabilitation here [in Malawi] as per doctors’ advice.

“However, if possible, the team should start early training so as to build team-work and perform better at the games,” she said.

The Queens were dealt a blow after the towering shooter missed the Africa Netball Championship in Lusaka, Zambia and the Fast5 Netball World Series in Melbourne, Australia, earlier this year.

Kumwenda suffered the injury after landing awkwardly during a Suncorp Super Netball League match between her Vixens and West Coast Fever on July 28.

The 28-year-old netballer was advised by doctors to avoid netball action for 12 months, which consequently makes her doubtful for the World Cup set to run from July 12 and 21.

According to the doctors’ recommendations, Mwawi is expected to be fully fit in August 2019, a month after the World Cup.
