Malawi national netball team top shooter, Mwawi Kumwenda, picked her first Player of the Match award after inspiring Melbourne Vixens to a narrow 59-58 victory over Magpies to launch their 2018 Suncorp Super Netball first-round campaign in Australia.
The win marked a good start for Vixens as they hunt for silverware.
Mwawi, through her local Manager Hlupikire Chalamba, hailed teammates for the dream start to the season.
“[We are] hoping for the best for the rest of the season. I am just proud of the girls and thank God for the first Player of the Match award of the season. We are stronger together Vixens family,” she said.
The Queens’ shooter also emerged top scorer for the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in Australia for the second successive time.
Mwawi scored 254 goals with her accuracy increasing to 92.7 percent.
During the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in Scotland in 2014, Mwawi won the accolade after scoring 230 baskets with an accuracy of 90 percent.
