Mwayi Kamanga emerged victorious after overcoming Lameck Mkangama in action-packed eight round non-title welterweight fight staged at Obligado Leisure Park in Mzuzu.

The Mzuzu based boxer, showcased a master class against his 26-year-old Kamuzu Barracks based opponent in a thrilling fight attended by guest of honour Mzuzu City Mayor, William Mkandawire.

Kamanga, known as ‘The Propeller’ began his fourth professional fight with a bang, connecting hard punches that sent Mkangama sprawling on the canvas twice in rounds three and five.

‘The Propeller’, who took his record to three wins in four fights, won the bout through unanimous point decision.

The boxer attributed his victory to good welfare from the sponsor Big Joe Nyirongo.

“I am grateful to my sponsor for his support and I felt duty bound to pay back his trust by winning,” Kamanga told The Daily Times.

But Mkangama, who had Osgood Kayuni at his corner, claimed he was robbed of victory.

In the main supporting bout, Ernest Msoliza won through points over Bright Mdoka, Amosi Nkhata defeated Yahaya Mwayipopa. Wilfred Nyambose beat Patrick Kaira, Violet Nyambose drew against Ruth Phiri while Mcdad Thipa lost to Lewis Nkhata

Guest of honour Mzuzu Mayor Mkandawire said the City Council would partner the sponsors in taking boxing in Mzuzu to greater heights besides rehabilitating Obligado ring.
