Actress and filmmaker Flora Suya, who is currently in the United States of America (USA), has revealed that her film My Mother’s Story will be screened at the Nepal African Film Festival in September.

The film last year received an award at the Silicon Valley African Film Festival in USA.

Suya, who has starred in several movies among them Shemu Joyah’s The Last Fishing Boat and Seasons of a Life before turning to a filmmaker, said she received the invitation sometime back.

“I am excited with this. Actually, there is a possibility of my attending the festival in Nepal in September. This is not for me alone but for the country,” Suya said on Saturday.

Suya features in My Mother’s Story although she directed it.

The K2.5 million budget movie which was premiered last year tells an African story and centres on a young woman who works as a housemaid.

She is impregnated by a gardener and later abandoned.

And while still pregnant, she meets another man who falls for her and life changes but tragedy later strikes.

Meanwhile, Suya has also hinted that she will premiere a new movie in the country in October titled Dear Penpal.

“Our first Shakespeare performance is today (Saturday). It actually has been a great experience for me starring in Shakespeare play here in USA. I have learnt new things and I am planning to produce it when I come back,” Suya said.

She added:

“I have a movie premiere in October and soon after that I will be on stage with Titus Andronicus. I had another offer from another theatre play called The Crucible, but I have turned it down because I need to attend to some of my projects back home,” said the actress.

Suya could not say more on the new movie, saying she will come out once all the information is ready.

The actress also featured in a Zambian movie titled Chenda.
