Mystery surrounds the demise of former Nyasa Big Bullets and Be Forward Wanderers striker Gomezgani Gondwe who was found dead in Blantyre Thursday.
The cause of death was yet to be established as we went to press. Gomezgani’s elder brother, Gowokani, said the body was found by the roadside Thursday morning in Machinjiri, Blantyre.
“We are saddened that he died in that manner. We do not know what really caused his death. There are several speculations but the truth is yet to come out,” Gowokani said.
Gomezgani, 34, returned home last year after his contract with eSwatini side Malanti FC expired and started training with Ntopwa FC before the season was suspended.
He is survived by a wife and two children and will be laid to rest in Blantyre today.
Blantyre City East Member of Parliament, John Bande, said he was shocked with Gomezgani’s untimely death.
“We have lost a dedicated footballer, a hard worker. Police are conducting investigations on what happened,” Bande said.
Gomezgani’s death comes just a month after football administrator Gracias Chikoma was also brutally murdered in Lilongwe.
The player also had unsuccessful trials with South African side Black Leopards in 2016 after he was spotted playing for Malanti where he reportedly scored 12 league goals in the 2016 season.
