Mzati brings 40 songs

MZATI —I am looking at the things I was experiencing

Blantyre-based musician Alinafe Chiwanda, popularly known as Mzati, makes an affirmative step in his music career as he launches a double compilation of 40 songs titled Phava La Magitala at Amaryllis Hotel.

It is not easy in these modern times for artists to compose more songs but Mzati has been brave enough to compile 40 songs.

“This is a double compilation with 20 songs in each CD. I have had to concentrate but I should say it here that I started working on the project last year in September and I am also launching it the same month,” Mzati said.

He said he was inspired by the Covid pandemic and that he found more space because of lockdowns.

“I just thought of coming up with something that would increase positive energy and mindset change among people, particularly youths,” Mzati said.

He said the compilation tackles real-life events.

“I am looking at the things I was experiencing, experiences from other people. I am looking at the hardships, relationships, God and more,” the singer said.

He said he recorded the 40 songs with different producers to bring diverse elements but also expose the immense talent that the country has.

“There are more talented people in the country that are unique and capable of doing extra-ordinary things and, because of working with different producers, I have also ended up bringing forth different genres so that I appeal to everyone from the young to the old,” Mzati said.

The ‘Pita’ creator said some of the songs that make up the 40 songs include ‘Moto’, ‘ Hlengiwe’, ‘M’khale Ndine’, ‘Liliya’, ‘Zili Pati and ‘Kalata Yoyamba’.

This is Mzati’s third album. His previous albums are This Malawi and Mtolo.

Apart from his performance, Mzati said the launch would also be spiced up by Zimbabwean artist Mari Tatenda, Barefoot, Mtola and contortionist Shando.

Minister of Tourism, Culture and Wildlife Michael Usi was billed to be the guest of honour but, due to other circumstances beyond his control, he will not make it.

“There are also other guests who will be part of the launch. It will be a long night and I am prepared,” Mzati said.
