Mzuni FC coach blasts referee

Mzuni FC coach Alex Ngwira was furious at officiating personnel when his side lost 2-0 to Azam Tigers on Sunday at Kamuzu Stadium in a TNM Super League encounter.

In a post-match interview, Ngwira argued that his side did not deserve to lose, but was let down by the officiating panel led by John Phiri. Mzuni also lost by a similar margin to Nyasa Big Bullets on Saturday.

Ngwira argued that Bright Munthali’s opening goal in the second half was from an offside position and it was a game-killer before Peter Katsonga’s second goal.

“Everybody saw what happened. We spend a lot of money, therefore, it is disappointing to see this type of horrible officiating. The goal completely demoralised the team. The game was easy but Tigers were handed a lifeline. I am really frustrated,” he said.

“We thought that we would learn good things in Blantyre which is the home of football, but the rest of the team is demoralised. We don’t know where to start from when we go back to training. It is important that the league administrators should take note of these incidents and act on them.”

“I think they should not blame the officiating personnel. It was a grand game and for us to win, we had to apply our technical know-how. This is what has killed them. We introduced three players that made the difference,” he said.

Tigers’ Technical Director, Robin Alufandika, played down Ngwira’s sentiments. Tigers rose to fifth position with 11 points from six matches, whereas Mzuni dropped from position three to seven with 10 points from seven matches.
