Mzuni FC have, ahead of their game against rookies Karonga United on Saturday at Mzuzu Stadium, lowered their TNM Super League targets.
Mzuni FC coach Alex Ngwira said the team was not eyeing the title but an eighth position.
“We are training hard for the games. We are meeting Karonga United this weekend. It is another tough game for us, but we hope we will win,” Ngwira said.
Despite assembling a good squad this season, the coach noted that winding up the league within the top-eight would be an achievement.
Mzuni is positioned fourth with 13 points from eight games, five points behind league leaders, Blue Eagles.
In preparations for the Karonga game, Ngwira said there is great competition among players in his camp.
Mzuni might welcome back from players such as defenders Suzgo Mwakasinga and Bob Longwe, goalkeeper Labson Chiyenda and striker Zeliat Nkhoma.
Karonga coach Kondwani Mwalweni said their last week’s 1-1 and 0-0 draws against Max Bullets and Wizards FC at Kamuzu Stadium have inspired them going into meetings against Mzuni and Moyale Barracks on Saturday and Sunday.
“These are very crucial games. They will give us a clear picture of our stand in the league. We believe that we have assembled a good squad despite being given little time for preparations,” Mwalweni said.
