Mzuni players ‘shocked’
Mzuni Coach, Alex Ngwira, has said his team’s poor performance in the TNM Super League this season is due to his players’ psychological shock.
Ngwira said the players are affected by Mzuzu University management’s decision to stop sponsoring non-student players by July 1 2018.
“The announcement affected them psychologically as they are not sure about their future in the team. This can happen to any person.
“However, we have tried to assure them that discussions between [members of] our Executive Committee and university’s management are underway. We hope that something good will come out,” Ngwira said after playing out to a goalless draw against Karonga United at Mzuzu Stadium on Sunday.
Mzuni General Secretary, Donnex Chilonga, confirmed that discussions with the university’s management were underway over a possible reversal of the decision.
“We have tried to convince the players that everything will be alright. We are doing everything possible that the team should return to winning ways,” Chilonga said.
Last week, Chilonga said they were looking for additional sponsors to cater for non-student players should Mzuni management uphold its decision.
Mzuni lie 13th on the log table with six points from six games.
