Mzuni student succumbs to match injuries

INJURIES—Minjolo
A Mzuzu University (Mzuni) student died after sustaining injuries during a football match at Balaka Secondary School on Saturday.
The student, Beaton Minjolo, was playing for his district team called All Stars against Hardknockers when he collided with an opponent and sustained injuries.
He was taken to Balaka District Hospital, where he passed on.
Mzuni announced the death through a memo from the office of the university registrar dated June 5.
The memo indicated that Minjolo would be buried Monday at Kapandatsitsi in Msamanyada Village, Traditional Authority Nsamala, Balaka District.
All Stars sponsor Patron Kalonga, an ardent Nyasa Big Bullets supporter, described the death as untimely and a big loss.
“Beaton collided with an opponent during Saturday’s match against Hardknockers and sustained injuries. He was then taken to Balaka District Hospital where he died. The entire team is deeply shocked with his untimely death.
“He was our captain for a long time and his leadership qualities contributed greatly to our success in various competitions within Ngwangwa sports zone. He was a player with great potential to excel in the game. We will miss him greatly,” Kalonga said.
Minjolo was a Cohort Six Level Four Bachelor of Education student at Mzuni.
