Mzuni test Nomads’ title resolve

TNM Super League pacesetters, Be Forward Wanderers, are set to renew hostilities with the intellectuals of Mzuni when the two sides meet in a crucial and potentially explosive league decider at Civo Stadium this afternoon.
Tempers have been flying from the time Super League of Malawi announced that the two gladiators should meet at a neutral venue after failing to play their match in Balaka on November 4 after some Mzuni officials and players were attacked as they attempted to enter into the stadium.
Mzuni have been a nuisance to Wanderers as records seem to back them.
The two teams have played five games since 2013 and Mzuni have won on three occasions. Wanderers have won just once, with the other game ending in a draw.
Mzuni Coach, Alex Ngwira, was philosophical when asked about the game.
Ngwira said his charges will not let history fool them ahead of the tie.
“We still have slim chances of finishing in the top eight, so we are fighting our own battle. This is a different game altogether and the mission is also different.
“Our opponents are also fighting their own battle. So we will not let history deceive us. The game will not be easy but we will fight tooth and nail for our own cause,” he said.
Mzuni have quality players such as midfielder Hudson Milanzie, striker Victor Gondwe, Timothy Silwimba and goalkeeper, Chimwemwe Kumkwawa.
Wanderers Team Manager, Steve Madeira, said his players had been longing for this match to underline their title aspirations.
“This is the match we have been looking forward to. We are going there to end the long wait for the league title. It has been a tough season and you need games like these to prove that you are the champions,” Madeira said.
It is not yet known whether Wanderers will maintain Nenani Juwaya in goals at the expense of Richard Chipuwa whose continued recent omission from the team has raised eyebrows.
Defender Harry Nyirenda and right back Stanley Sanudi have been rock solid for the team while veteran forward Esau ‘Black Mamba’ Kanyenda has also been a predator.
Jaffalie Chande, Isaac Kaliyati and Joseph Kamwendo are other potential match winners for the Lali Lubani Road side.
Wanderers lead the 16- team pack with 62 points while Mzuni lie 10th on the table with 34 points.
Both sides will be playing their 28th match.
